Insect Screens for United Utilities
Our roller fly screen installation team were contacted by United Utilities to prevent flies from entering offices at water treatment plants to allow air flow and reduce the usage of air conditioning to reduce their carbon footprint.
The sites
United Utilities water treatment plants throughout the Northwest of England in a wide variety of locations from sewerage to water supply plants.
The problem
Flies are an obvious problem around waste water treatment plants, with very small owl midges and drain flies, and until recently the on-site offices had air conditioning installed in them. With a commitment to an absolute reduction in Carbon emissions by 26%, United Utilities were looking for new ways to keep the offices cool
The solution
In order to be able to open the windows and let fresh air in to keep the offices cool rather than using air conditioners our roller fly screen system was chosen for the opening windows as it offered the versatility of keeping the flies out in summer and being almost invisible when retracted
After a trial period the fly screens have now been rolled out to all water treatment plants, as the quality and effectiveness of the screens exceeded their expectations
