Window Mesh Screens
Hinged panel window screens keep out flies, mosquitoes, wasps, bees, midges and spiders while your windows stay open — and with our superfine pollen mesh, pollen too. They suit homes and commercial premises alike.
Easy to fit, supplied to your exact measurements and suitable for food premises — the panel lifts off its hinges for cleaning, which is what environmental health officers look for.
The frame is weatherproof, so it can be fitted inside or outside, to the window frame or the surrounding wall, and lifted off for cleaning or winter storage.
Just enter the overall finished panel size required for an instant quote, the frames will come pre-cut to your bespoke dimensions, ready to assemble – no cutting required!
Prefer to cut it yourself? Order an oversized screen and trim to suit.
Quick Reminder – the overall finished panel size doesn’t include the hinges and turn buttons – hinges are 12mm and turn buttons 16mm

Extruded, not rolled. Many lightweight kits use rolled aluminium, which flexes and distorts. Our 2mm-wall extruded frame stays square.

HINGED PANEL WINDOW SCREENSOur hinged panel fly screens for windows use contoured aluminium frames finished in a scratch-resistant polyester coating, so they blend in with your existing frames and are almost invisible once fitted. They arrive cut to your dimensions – you simply slot them together, insert the mesh, and fix them to the window for instant protection from flying insects. The frames are extruded aluminium, 30 mm x 11 mm with a 2 mm wall, which gives them maximum strength. Do be wary of the lightweight frames you’ll see elsewhere – those are rolled aluminium, and they flex and distort. | |
COMMERCIAL PANEL FLY SCREENSWe can manufacture panel screens for windows and vents of any size. If you need something larger than the sizes shown, just get in touch and we’ll quote for it. | |
FLYSCREEN HINGESThe lift-off hinges mean the panel comes away from the window whenever you need it to – useful for cleaning the glass, or for storing the screens away over winter. You can hinge from the top or from either side, whichever suits your window, and the hinge depth is 12 mm. | |
TURN BUTTONSHeavy-duty turn buttons hold the panel firmly against the window frame – a simple pivot to open, a simple pivot to close. The turn button diameter is 16 mm. | |

COMMERCIAL FLY SCREENSThese panel screens are just as much at home on a commercial building as a house – we’ve supplied them for schools, kitchens, offices and food production sites, wherever windows need to open without letting the flies in. If you have a commercial project in mind, get in touch and we’ll work out what you need. | |

MESH OPTIONSThere’s a choice of meshes to suit whatever’s bugging you: Easy View mosquito mesh keeps out most flying insects and spiders, though not midges. It gives excellent visibility and good airflow to keep your rooms cool, and comes in three colours – black, grey and white. Midge mesh has a finer weave that keeps out the smaller midges and corn flies as well as the larger ones. Available in black or grey. Pet mesh keeps out the same insects as the mosquito mesh, but with a stronger weave that helps protect against the occasional pet claw swipe. | |
POLLEN MESH
Pollen mesh keeps out flies, pollen and other allergens, and it’s certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) – invaluable if you suffer from hay fever. It’s a knitted polyester weave of 80 microns with a 0.8 aperture, available in grey. This one comes with a personal guarantee of effectiveness: as a hay fever sufferer myself, I can now sleep with my windows open! | |
SUNOX MESHEvery hinged panel screen we make now comes with Sunox mesh as standard. It’s naturally antibacterial, and it filters the air on its way through – cutting down on germs, bacteria and airborne pollutants. So you’re not only keeping the insects out, you’re letting cleaner air in. | |

How Hinged Panel Compares to Other Window Screens
Hinged panel isn’t the only way to screen a window — here’s how it stacks up against the other types we make, so you can check it’s the right fit before you order.
| Screen type | Best for | How it works | Max size | Mesh options | Fitting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hinged panel (this screen) | A permanent, always-there screen and the lowest-cost option | A rigid mesh panel in an aluminium frame, hung on hinges with turn buttons to hold it shut — opens like a small door | Made to your panel size; self-assembly kit | Charcoal, grey or white standard mesh, plus pet, pollen and midge mesh | Hinged to the window frame or surrounding wall, inside or outside |
| Roller | Windows you want to open freely, with the screen disappearing completely when not needed | Mesh is spring-tensioned inside an aluminium cassette; pull the handlebar down to cover the window, release to retract | Up to 1,800 mm of mesh drop from a 40 mm cassette | Easy View standard, midge, toughened pet-resistant, ECARF pollen — Sunox antibacterial as standard | Recess or face-fit; top-hinged Velux windows recess-fit, centre-pivot Velux mount to the wall |
| Magnetic | Seasonal use — easy to take down and store when insects aren’t a problem | A mesh panel held in place by four corner magnets, which are screwed to the window frame | Made to your panel size | Standard mosquito, midge, pet and pollen mesh | Magnet mounts to the frame or surrounding wall, inside or outside; screen lifts off by hand |
| Horizontal sliding | Wide openings too big for a single roller or hinged panel | The opening is split into panels that run side to side on an internal wheel system within a slim 20 x 28 mm frame | Up to 3 m wide, in as many panels as the opening needs | Standard, midge, pet and pollen mesh — Sunox antibacterial as standard | Recess-fits into the window reveal; pre-cut, panels lift out for cleaning |
| Vertical sliding | Sash windows and openings taller than they are wide | Panels slide up and down instead of side to side, held at any height by spring-loaded pads, in the same slim 20 x 28 mm frame | Made to your opening size | Standard, midge, pet and pollen mesh — Sunox antibacterial as standard | Recess-fits into the window reveal; pre-cut kit, or we can build and install it for you |
| Canopy | Openings an internal screen can’t cover — inward-opening windows with no reveal, high-level windows, rooftop vents, or centre-pivot windows | An external steel canopy frame holds a removable mesh panel over the opening from outside | Panels over 1,400 mm wide are supplied as two panels | Standard mesh panel | Pre-cut flat-pack, mild steel frame, assembled and fixed on site |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can hinged panel fly screens be fitted outside as well as inside?
They can. The frame and mesh are both weatherproof, so it makes no difference which side of the window they hang on. As a rule, screens go inside where the window opens outwards, and outside where it opens inwards.
Are these suitable for commercial kitchens?
Yes. The panel lifts straight off its hinges, which is precisely what the food hygiene regulations are getting at when they ask for screens that can be removed for cleaning. We supply them to kitchens, schools, offices and food production sites.
Can I get a mesh that also blocks pollen?
You can. Swap the standard mosquito mesh for our pollen mesh – a knitted polyester weave of 80 microns with a 0.8 aperture, certified by ECARF – and the screen holds back pollen and airborne allergens as well as flies. Speaking as a hay fever sufferer, it’s the difference between sleeping with the window open in June and not.
Do I need to cut the frame to size myself?
No saw, no hacksaw, no measuring twice and cutting once. Give us the finished panel size and the four profiles arrive laser-cut to those exact dimensions – push in the corner pieces, roll the mesh into the gasket, hang it on the hinges. If you’d rather do the cutting yourself, order an oversized screen and trim to suit.
What measurement do I give you when I order?
The overall finished panel size – the frame itself, and nothing else. Don’t add anything for the hinges (12 mm) or the turn buttons (16 mm), because they sit outside that panel. There’s a measuring guide above if you want to check before you commit.
Can I take the screens off over winter?
That’s exactly what the lift-off hinges are for. The panel slides off whenever you want it to – handy for cleaning the glass in summer, and for stacking the screens in the loft once the flies have gone.
How do I keep the mesh clean?
Run a vacuum over it. All of our meshes – mosquito, midge, pet and pollen – clean up the same way, and none of them need taking out of the frame to do it.
Customer Reviews
We believe that every customers experience with our company should be excellent, occasionally we ask our customers to provide feedback on their experience, these are some of the responses we have received…. more customer reviews
Buying for a food business? Environmental health will want screens that come off for cleaning. These do – the panel lifts off its hinges and goes in the sink, which is why we’ve been supplying them to commercial kitchens and food production sites for years. More on compliance for food premises. More on compliance for food premises.
Hay fever sufferers:if summer normally means closed windows and antihistamines, order this screen with ECARF-certified pollen mesh in place of the standard mosquito mesh, £20 + VAT extra. I fitted them at home for that very reason. See pollen screens.— see pollen screens.
Cat or Dog in the House? Cats are the reason most people ask us about pet mesh. It stops the same insects as the standard mesh but the weave is considerably tougher, so it shrugs off a claw swipe and keeps the cat the right side of the window. £16 + VAT on top of the standard screen — see pet screens for what that changes.
